The new look and feel of Pukaha Mount Bruce - where people can experience New Zealand ``the way it used to be'' - is conveyed in its colourful new website, launched yesterday at a function at Masterton's Aratoi Museum of Art and History.

Developed by Wairarapa-based graphic designer Wayne Jeffries and Department of Conservation area manager Derrick Field, it highlights Pukaha Mount Bruce as a leading Wairarapa visitor attraction, a restoration project and national captive breeding facility. It displays the new logo and conveys Pukaha's brand values of inspiration, hope for the future and helping to restore the connection between all living things.

``We want to tell the world about Pukaha Mount Bruce and this website is one of our most important mediums for doing this,'' Mr Field said.

``The success of the Pukaha restoration project is a community achievement and we're really keen to spread the message about what's possible to as many people as we can.''

Mr Field said it was hoped that the new website would also encourage more overseas tourists to include Pukaha Mount Bruce on their New Zealand travel itineraries.

``More and more people are planning their itineraries before they leave their home country and we know that high numbers of overseas visitors do this via the internet. Approximately 80% of people who visit Pukaha Mount Bruce are from overseas, so we need to be appealing to this market and gaining their commitment to visit us before they get on the plane to come to New Zealand.''

Pukaha logo and website `look and feel' graphic designer, Wayne Jeffries was also at the launch of the new website. ``I believe that the best thing about this new website is the amount and accessibility of information now available to visitors to the site and the user- friendliness of it.''

Wellington Conservator Allan Ross opened the event and thanked people responsible for driving and gaining support for the recent Pukaha Mount Bruce fundraiser ``The Community Challenge - own it!''

The new Pukaha Mount Bruce website address is www.mtbruce.org.nz and went live on Monday 20th December at 5pm.
