Recent diary entries for Aroha1670:

28 May 2002 (updated 28 May 2002)  »

The Department of Conservation and the NZ Historic Places Trust have recently released a document called: "Caring for Archaeological Sites: New Zealand Guidelines".

The document is still in draft form but comments for this document closes on Tuesday 4 June 2002.

If any of the kaitiaki groups do not have a copy of this document, I suggest that you obtain one from your nearest DOC office.

Regional focus groups are to be convened in July/August 2002. There are only 4 four venues to choose from: Auckland, Hamilton, Lincoln, Wanganui/Palmerston North.

The number of hui is grossly inadequate especially in locations where there are high concentrations of archaeological sites - Northland, Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti, Hawkes Bay.

I urge all kaitiaki groups to contact the project organiser : Mr Kevin Jones at the Department of Conservation head office in Wellington to lobby for a hui in your area.
